Grimace: Slew Dem / Distance [ INNAR001 ]
First release on Inna Riddim Recordings and it’s BIG! Grimace, born in LA, raised in the UK, and based now in Newtown, isn’t pulling his punches with ‘Slew Dem’: classic reggae vocal over a heavyweight bassline and rolling halfstep. This one will punish speaker stacks and mash up the dance. In fact it’s so hot it’s been picked up by Ministry of Sound and will feature on their Sound of Dubstep compilation due out in April!
‘Distance’ stays with the roots vibe but cools it out with a smoother rhythm, beats cascading in and out like the waves on Bondi Beach. (Which, incidentally, is exactly where you should be if you’re reading this on or before Friday 11 March; at the Bondi FM cafe on Curlewis St, to drink a cocktail or two and catch the Inna Riddim Session live, where we’ll have Grimace in the studio playing these tracks plus some exclusive dubs from the Grimace lab!)
To celebrate the label launch and help promote the release, we’re exclusively giving away Grimace’s refix of Shaloma’s ‘Good Vibrations’. Underpinning Shalomaâs catchy, conscious vocal with a uptempo dubstep beat translates the melody into an immediate dance starter. The track was fully mastered at Transition Studios along with the ones on the official release, and is available as a DJ-friendly (320Kbps MP3) download. Very big tunes, definitely working in my sets so far, but shame it isn’t seeing a vinyl release.
